Professor Reuben Agbons Eifediyi, Chief Medical Director of the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), is quietly redefining public service with purpose, honour, and cultural consciousness. Under his leadership, ISTH has not only grown as a centre of medical excellence but also as a symbol of Esan pride and remembrance.

Through his initiative to revive the Admiral Augustus Aikhomu Foundation, Prof. Eifediyi has immortalized the contributions of Admiral Augustus Akhabue Aikhomu, Nigeria’s former Vice President, who played a central role in creating Edo State, the five Esan LGAs, and especially Esan Central LGA.

It is worth recalling that the hospital now known as ISTH was originally named the Otibhor Okhae Teaching Hospital, after Admiral Aikhomu’s mother — a reflection of his deep connection to community and heritage. The recent revival of the Foundation under Prof. Eifediyi reconnects ISTH to that noble vision of service, excellence, and gratitude.

Prof. Eifediyi stands today as a true professional who has not lost touch with his Esan roots — a bridge between the legacy of our heroes past and the promise of a more progressive Esanland.

Other professionals in power of Esan extraction are urged to take a cue from Prof Eifediyi and together, let’s make Esanland greater.
