Ewu – August 12, 2025 — Edo politician and student leader, Saintmoses Eromosele, has formally rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging loyalty to the party and offering an open apology to Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo for past criticisms.
In a letter to the APC Ward 8 Chairman in Esan Central LGA, Eromosele said he left the party in May 2024 over unresolved internal disputes and joined the PDP at the invitation of Dr. Asue Ighodalo. He, however, resigned from the PDP by November 2024, before the conclusion of election tribunal cases, stating the party was “no better” in its internal workings.
“Respected leaders and executive members from Ewu and across Edo State reached out to me in the spirit of reconciliation, assuring me that the issues that led to my exit had been addressed,” he wrote.
Eromosele, who once questioned Okpebholo’s educational background, admitted his earlier position was based on “misleading propaganda,” noting that he now sees the governor as “well-educated, capable, and humble,” citing projects such as the Benin City Flyovers, rehabilitation of the Benin–Auchi Road, and inclusive governance.
Drawing an analogy with Saul in the Bible — who once persecuted Christians until he saw the light and became Paul — Eromosele said the chapter with Dr. Asue Ighodalo was closed, and the new chapter was about “unity, progress, and building an Edo and Nigeria that work for all.” He assured Governor Okpebholo, who had lamented the loss of Ewu in the last gubernatorial election, that they would now deliver Ewu to encourage him to do more for the community.
The governor, in turn, announced that despite Ewu’s voting pattern in the last election, his love for the town had led him to include the Ewu Road modernisation in the supplementary budget, which would be reflected within two weeks.
Party sources confirmed his readmission was promptly accepted as Ward 8 Chairman Awo Jatto received his letter, embraced him, and pledged to reintegrate him fully into the party’s activities. His return was witnessed in Ewu by Governor Okpebholo and APC State Vice Chairman Hon Sylvester Aigbogbo, who welcomed him alongside other defectors. The governor granted them forgiveness and urged them to prove their commitment ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Speaking from the roof platform of a campaign vehicle at the rally in Ewu, Eromosele — popularly known as SME — urged all Ewu people to unite and vote Dr. Ikpea for Senate, stressing the need to support the governor’s choice “for the betterment of Ewu.” His remarks drew loud applause, underscoring his renewed political alignment and influence in the community.
