The drive for reform and accountability was evident on Monday as the hospital commenced a two-day sensitization lecture for staff employed under the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) platform. The event gathered staff, management, and stakeholders in discussions focused on institutional ethics, financial discipline, and service delivery.
Irrua, Edo State – Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) is consolidating its reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading tertiary health institutions, recording steady progress under the leadership of its Chief Medical Director (CMD), Professor Reuben Agbons Eifediyi.
In his keynote address, Prof. Eifediyi emphasized that public servants must uphold the ethical codes approved by the Federal Government—political neutrality, confidentiality, integrity, loyalty, professionalism, timeliness, courtesy, and discipline.
“The responsibility of every staff is not only to serve the hospital but to safeguard its image and integrity,” he said, highlighting accountability and professionalism as the foundation for sustainable progress.
Beyond the lecture, ISTH has recorded notable achievements in recent months. These include infrastructural upgrades, digitization of administrative processes, expanded training for staff, and improvements in patient care services. Management insiders say these reforms reflect the CMD’s broader vision to align ISTH with global standards of teaching, research, and healthcare delivery.
Participants at the sensitization program described the initiative as timely, noting that strengthening financial systems and ethics will sustain public confidence in the hospital’s operations.
The two-day lecture continues Tuesday with technical sessions and interactive discussions designed to embed GIFMIS procedures in everyday hospital practice.
With both institutional reforms and leadership commitment on display, ISTH’s trajectory under Prof. Eifediyi is drawing attention as a model for tertiary healthcare management in Nigeria.
